The Building Envelope Science Institute Appoints First Executive Director

The Building Envelope Science Institute elected its first Executive Director, Richard Shaffer, who has a been involved since the inception of the Institute in early 2009. The Institute has lead the way for inspection & remediation of structures with Defective Drywall over the past year by introducing one of the first protocols and providing solutions to the Defective Drywall crisis.

Gainesville, FL, December 19, 2010 --(PR.com)-- The Building Envelope Science Institute (BESI) is a specialized institute dedicated to the advancement of education, specifically designed for the construction industry. The Board of Directors has appointed Richard Shaffer as the Institute’s first Executive Director.

Mr. Shaffer graduated Magna Cum Laude from Campbell University with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. He is accustomed to working with senior level management in diverse working environments including the military, city government, private and corporate business sectors. Some of the previous positions held by Mr. Shaffer include Director of Operations for U S Building Consultants, Director of Research for the Jacksonville office of CB Richard Ellis, Paralegal for the City of Fayetteville Police Department, and military veteran.

Mr. Shaffer has specialized in the commercial construction industry for over ten years in various capacities including providing statistical and analytical reports for commercial real estate markets, commercial appraisals, licensed Real Estate Sales Person, building forensics, and most recently Defective (Chinese) Drywall training seminars. Mr. Shaffer has been involved with the Institute from its inception in early 2009; now he is focusing his full attention to the development and growth of the Building Envelope Science Institute which has grown to over 130 certified members since its launch in October 2009.

“The Institute has begun planning for 2011, ‘A Year of Increased Depth and Growth,’ stated Mr. Shaffer. To further explain he continued, “Depth will be obtained through the development of the website, resources, and more programs offered both in the traditional classroom and on-line that will include certification courses, informative seminars, and re-certification credits (RCs or CEUs) for industry professionals; thus, resulting in the growth of the Institute.”

The Institute has lead the way for inspection & remediation of structures with Defective Drywall over the past year by introducing one of the first protocols and providing solutions to the Defective Drywall crisis. BESI provides the most comprehensive training in inspection and remediation processes developed. The institute has been certifying qualified candidates for inspection and remediation of structures with defective drywall since October 2009. Those that have earned a designation as a remediator or consultant through the institute have attended a two-day course with a written final exam; inspectors attend a one-day course with a written final exam; and there are prerequisites such as years of experience and being in good standing with the state if they are licensed (required for those performing remediation).

The next course date for Defective Drywall Certification is February 10-11, 2011 at the Hilton Garden Inn Tampa Ybor Historic District in Tampa, Florida. Additionally, the Defective Drywall Certification course is approved by ACAC for 16 hours of re-certification credit (RCs) under registration number 10092301 on the ACAC website (www.acac.org).
