Over 170 Hot Sauces and Spicy Condiments Awarded
The Hot Pepper Awards 2010 has released this year's list of winners.
Brooklyn, NY, December 21, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Well, it's that time of year again, when The Hot Pepper Awards names the best spicy products of the year.
Over 170 awards were handed out, so if you are a chilihead (hot sauce fanatic), this list is for you. The list can be found at www.thehotpepper.com/topic/19289-the-hot-pepper-awards-2010-winners-announced/
The Hot Pepper Awards is not only about hot sauce, they judge BBQ sauce, rub, salsa, and even spicy jelly, wine, and chocolates. Chiliheads like it all spicy. Even their salt (as evident below).
The overall winners were:
Hot Sauce: Sun Pony - Coco Loco Mango Tropical Fire Hot Sauce
Wing Sauce: Quaker Steak & Lube - Supercharged
Salsa: Global Warming Salsa Co. - Classic Hot 105º
BBQ Sauce: The Chile Farm - The Brothers BBQ Sauce Smoky Chipotle
Dry Spice: Burningtastebuds - Garlic Chilli Salt
Condiment: Patter Fam Sauces - Berry Hot Jelly
Extreme Product: Slow Death Sauces/Scorpion Chilli - Rest In Peace
Open Class: Chocolates by George! - Hot Lips Truffles
There were also 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place awards for sub-categories under these main categories. Some highlights were:
Hot Sauce: Superhots: 1st - The Hippy Seed Company - Yellow 7 Turkey Slap
Hot Sauce: Pepper Blend with Superhots: 1st - Scorpion Chilli - Hot Chocolate
Hot Sauce: Fruit with Superhots: 1st - Grill Master Chuck - Bhut Sauce
Superhots are extremely hot peppers that are much hotter than the Habanero. The Bhut Jolokia, or Ghost Pepper, is one of the more popular superhots, since it currently holds the record as the world's hottest. There is some controversy though, as the Naga Viper has now been tested higher. The hottest pepper will always be a controversial topic, with all the hybrids and different testing labs, etc. Other popular superhots include the 7-pot and Trinidad Scorpion.
Then there are extreme sauces, which include the extracts of these hot peppers. These sauces are for pure heat, since you will only taste the sauce for about a half a second before your mouth is on fire. A lot of people complain about a chemical extract taste when it comes to these sauces. The Hot Pepper Awards has awarded what they believe to be the best, so you can judge for yourself.
If you like hot stuff, whether it's a mild heat with pepper flavor, or you crave the fire and pain, there is something on this list for you.
