Presidente InterContinental Cozumel Resort & Spa’s Tequila “Sommelier” Leads Guests on an Educational, Tasting Tour of Tequila
Tasting Experience Includes Three-Course Dinner Paired with Tequilas.
Cozumel, Mexico, December 22, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Presidente InterContinental Cozumel Resort & Spa has launched a new, educational tasting session of Mexico’s finest tequilas where the resort’s Tequila “Sommelier,” Guillermo Enriquez, leads guests through the history and production of tequila culminating in an exclusive tasting.
The beachfront experience takes place in El Caribeño, the resort’s open-air palapa overlooking the Caribbean waters, where guests begin the tasting with a refreshing, handmade margarita followed by samplings of four different kinds of 100% agave tequilas, from Silver to Premium Reposado and Añejo.
Similar to a wine tasting, guests are instructed how to first examine the tequila by viewing its color. Then guests swirl it in the glass releasing the spicy aromas. Finally, sip and savor it -- noting the delicacy of the tequila and the tones that are left on the palate.
Touring the haciendas of Jalisco, the epicenter of the Mexican tequila industry, and discovering the best-known tequilas in the world is a passion for Enriquez.
“Tequila has a reputation for being harsh, but high-quality varieties have their own unique tastes that should be savored,” he says.
In fact, Riedel, the popular crystal glass producer, developed a tequila glass specifically for sipping and savoring this “nectar of the Gods.”
To enhance the experience, Executive Chef Daniel Lentz has prepared a three-course menu featuring dishes flavored with chilies, cilantro and peppers which pair nicely with the spiciness of the tequila. Guests have their choice of three appetizers, entrées and desserts. A sampling of dishes includes Spicy Tomato Gazpacho with Gold Tequila, Grilled Skirt Steak with Tequila Chimichurri Salsa and even a Chocolate Almond Brownie topped with Gold Tequila Raspberry Sauce and Silver Tequila Whipped Cream.
