Greater Saint Peter AME Church Wants Celebratory Gunfire to End
Rev. Isaiah J. Waddy and members of Greater Saint Peter AME Church in Jonesboro, GA has called a news conference to urge residents to refrain from random gunfire and to celebrate this year's holiday season safely.
Jonesboro, GA, December 21, 2010 --(PR.com)-- On Tuesday, December 21, 2010 at 11:00 AM, Rev. Isaiah J. Waddy of Greater St. Peter AME Church will host a news conference to speak out against celebratory gunfire. The event will take place in front of the church which is located at 9540 Fayetteville Rd, Jonesboro, GA 30238.
This effort follows last year’s incident when a stray bullet nearly missed Rev. Waddy’s wife during their watch night service on New Year’s Eve.
“I’ll never forget that night. My wife couldn’t stop trembling. I was devastated. The members couldn’t believe what had happened. We were grateful no one was injured in our church,” Waddy says. “But we were sad to learn that next day about a falling bullet killing a 4 year old boy name Marquel Peters. He was shot while attending his New Years Eve church service in Decatur, GA. We really need to put an end to celebratory gunfire.”
The Clayton County Black Ministers Fellowship and The Youth Connection will join Rev. Waddy and his members on Tuesday morning to urge residents to refrain from random gunfire this holiday season and to celebrate safely and responsibly.
