New England Healthcare Drama by Independent Film Company Milk and Cookie Productions Hits the International Screen
Indie Drama Finishes Screening Run with Back to Back Visits to Greece
Boston, MA, December 23, 2010 --(PR.com)-- This weekend “Skin and Bone,” a short drama by Boston residents Philip and Lucy Magcalas through their company Milk and Cookie Productions, was shown at the International Panorama of Independent Films in Greece. As recently as September, it was also featured at the 2010 Kos International Film Festival in Ippokrates, the birthplace of Hippocrates, who was well known to be the founder of modern medicine.
The ensemble medical drama has garnered attention for the true-to-life manner in which it highlights interpersonal relationships, the multicultural nature of medicine, and healthcare equity, while commenting on the media’s portrayal of medicine. Along its festival run, it has earned the “Best Comedy Drama Over 30 Minutes” Making a Difference Award at COMMFFEST Global Community Film Festival in Toronto, the “Merit of Awareness” at Awareness Film Festival in LA, and the “Certificate of Excellence” at SkyFest Film and Script Festival.
Filmed in Boston on a $500 budget with an all-volunteer New England cast and crew, the film has received very good reviews. Richard Propes from The Independent Critic called it, "an honest, authentic and emotionally satisfying short film, and Cary Conley from Rogue Cinema says it is "…a touching and thought-provoking film about the health care field… raw and emotional as well as tender."
