Increased Demand for YubiKey Password Protection After Gawker Security Breach

Since Gawker Media was attacked last week, Yubico, providing the popular one time pass code token YubiKey, has experienced significantly increased orders from password manager users.

Sunnyvale, CA, December 24, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Gawker Media, a leading New York-based blog powerhouse, was recently hacked and the email addresses and passwords for staff and hundreds of thousands users compromised. The attack has resulted in a rapidly growing demand for secure password managers.

On Sunday, December 12, the news about Gawker’s security breach was published. Gawker has advised their users to change passwords, but the real threat is for those readers who use the same password at a Gawker site as they do for other online services.

To increase security, several online password managers, including LastPass, PassPack and PasswordSafe have integrated support for strong two factor authentication technologies. Since the Gawker attack, Yubico, providing the popular one time pass code token YubiKey, has experienced significantly increased orders from password manager users.
