Safety Harbor, FL, December 30, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Safety Harbor residents and their friends throughout the world will use the Internet to vote in hopes of winning a $50,000 Pepsi Refresh Grant. Artists Todd Ramquist and Kiaralinda, whose eclectic bowling ball house and studio, Whimzeyland, has been featured on Oprah, HGTV, Discovery Channel, PBS, Weird Florida, and in many publications, have been organizing friends, fans, and community to come together to help their dream of building The Safety Harbor Art and Music Center. Their vision is to provide a commercial community space for art, music, writing workshops and various other creative ventures.
The competition is tough, but they are ready, and due to word of mouth, hundreds of postcards, e-mail messages, a Facebook page, and a Blog, their small town may soon find the funding to push their dream forward, into a reality. By visiting the Pepsi Refresh site, and through mobile apps and Facebook links, voting is easy and can be done once per day through the end of January. These business-minded, charitable artists will be competing alongside many other community-enriching projects. Pepsi is giving away $1,300,000 each month to fund ideas that enrich communities.
Ramquist and Kiaralinda own the existing structure at 706 2nd St. N. in Safety Harbor, which is the original Rigsby family home. “We will keep the house since it has Rigsby history, and build around it , creating garden spaces where the creative process can be nurtured.” —Kiaralinda
The house will be transformed with the help of architect Grant Genova, who was chosen because of his vision regarding recycling and repurposing, which has always been an important part of both Todd and Kiaralinda’s art and life together.
According to Ramquist, they hope to break ground in early 2011 and will complete the project within the year. The center will be a great asset, providing art and music to the community, learning through workshops, and inspiration for creative minds, young and old.
