The chapter “The Unemployment Cure for Migraines” was previously published in the Wall Street Journal's Career Journal. “Office Footwear,” an article about seeing co-worker's bare feet in the workplace, began as an experimental article on OpenSalon.com where the author writes under a pseudonym.
As a writer for examiner.com, the author writes about life in the dog-friendly city of Chicago. This was the inspiration for Chapter 6: “Clues that you have a spoiled dog” where #33 points out that “Your dog had a better childhood than your grandmother.”

The author's initial storytelling is retold in the chapter titled “Love across the rooftops.” Her junior high school boredom at reading romance magazines at a friend's house led to the entertainment of her friends and initial storytelling fiascoes. After many years of perfecting the techniques of storytelling and writing, the author took part in nanowrimo.org where she wrote a novel in a month. After taking a humor writing class at Second City and getting articles published, the author is now releasing her first book.
