About Step-Up Ministry:
A non-profit organization, StepUP Ministry was founded in 1988 by members of White Memorial Presbyterian Church and is supported by the wider faith community across Wake County. The early mission of StepUP was to provide transitional housing to working families who were homeless or on the verge of becoming homeless. The concept has transformed into a comprehensive program model. Building on the strengths of two decades of experience, StepUP now offers participants two programs: 1) a week-long job training class that prepares unemployed and low-wage people for employment (in 2010, 270 people were placed in employment all over the Triangle), and 2) a one-year life skills class for participants who receive jobs through its jobs program. The goal of life skills is to teach budgeting, goal setting, career development and debt reduction in a phased, incentive-driven way. Each participant receives a mentor and a case manager. Hundreds of adults and children have transformed their lives by this ministry.
