Iowa Community Action Association Announces New Program for 2010 Disaster Case Advocacy

Iowa Community Action Agencies Provide Support for 2010 Disaster Survivors.

Des Moines, IA, January 06, 2011 --(PR.com)-- The Iowa Community Action Association (ICAA) was recently selected to administer case management/advocacy services for individuals impacted by the 2010 disasters. Case management advocates will work directly with individuals and families to determine their unmet needs and assist with efforts to recover. Advocates will remain in contact with families as much as necessary to assess how each person is doing in their recovery plan. Advocates will also network with other agencies and local Long Term Recovery Committees to see what services and resources are available to help Iowans best recover.

“We have a history of providing services to children and families, and assisted with providing case management services after the 2008 disasters,” said Lana Ross, Executive Director of ICAA. “We already collaborate with partners at the local and state level, so this only seemed like a natural fit for us.”

ICAA staff will coordinate the efforts of fourteen local community action agencies around the state with the Rebuild Iowa Office and other state agencies.

The 38 disaster-impacted counties eligible for Disaster Case Advocacy Services and the state’s Unmet Needs Disaster Grant program are: Appanoose, Black Hawk, Boone, Calhoun, Cherokee, Clayton, Decatur, Delaware, Dubuque, Fayette, Franklin, Hamilton, Howard, Humboldt, Ida, Jackson, Jasper, Jones, Kossuth, Lee, Lucas, Lyon, Mahaska, Marion, Monroe, O’Brien, Osceola, Polk, Ringgold, Shelby, Sioux, Story, Taylor, Union, Wapello, Warren, Webster and Wright Counties.

“ICAA’s vision is that every family needing case advocacy services be able to navigate through the process and receive the support necessary to access needed resources to reduce the impact of and recover from the natural disasters,” said Ross.

Iowa Community Action Association has partnered with a local agency, AdEasel, to develop the web and interactive marketing components of the program. AdEasel will provide extensive training and support to ICAA and the Community Action Agencies involved in the program, and will create template documents and resources for use by local agencies, and design a dynamic banner system for agency web sites to reach more Iowans affected by 2010 Disasters. A new mobile site and dedicated Disaster Case Advocacy section on ICAA's web site will be launching later this month at IowaCommunityAction.org/Disaster.

The new Disaster Case Advocacy web site will feature interactive maps and other tools to help direct Iowa families and individuals affected by 2010 disasters to contact the local Community Action Agency office for assistance. In addition, the site will include integrated Twitter feeds, Facebook posts, streaming videos, news and events, press releases, updates and announcements and related Disaster Assistance and Case Advocacy resources. Iowans are encouraged to use these new tools to receive support and direct assistance related to Iowa Disasters from the local agency serving their county. Iowans can also email Disaster@IowaCommunityAction.org for direct assistance.
