San Diego Marketing Group Helps Raise Money for The Boys and Girls Club of Venice and Operation Smile
San Diego Marketing Group participates in a charity dodgeball tournament to raise money for Operation Smile and The Boys And Girls Club Of Venice.
San Diego, CA, January 07, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Sunday, September 19th, 2010, San Diego Marketing Group joined forces with local firms in a charity dodgeball tournament. San Diego Marketing Group was one of sixteen teams participating in what was named the Winter Throwdown Dodgeball Tournament. The tournament was able to raise almost $2000 with all profits split fifty- fifty between The Boys And Girls Club and Operation Smile.
The Boy's & Girl's Club of Venice hosted the event at their location on Lincoln Blvd. This is the second event San Diego Marketing Group has participated in for The Boys And Girls Club and one of several the firm as participated in for Operation Smile.
The Boys and Girls clubs pride themselves on offering “a safe, family-friendly, community oriented place for children ages 6 to 17 to enjoy fun and games. The club offers multiple activities, including basketball, pool, theatre arts, visual arts and more. The building is massive, with plenty to do and plenty of volunteers willing to help steer kids in a positive direction. The club is open limited hours during the school year, but is open all day during the summer and vacations.”
Operation Smile is an organization San Diego Marketing Group has been excited to be a part of over the last few months. Operation Smile has relied on the support of charity donations to help provide free surgeries for children born with cleft lips or cleft palates. It is a surgery that costs only $240 and can change the entire path of a child’s life.
Sunday’s tournament was made up of teams with a minimum of 6 players and one alternate (optional; only if needed if injury or absences occur) and maximum of 10 players. The teams were a mixture of co-ed teams with no formula for the number of guys or gals on a team. Each team donated a $100 entrance fee.
Trophies and prizes were given for 1st place as well as the team member with the most creative uniform. The companies also joined forces bringing in baked goods to sell for the charity. The children of the Boys and Girls Club also got together and decorated a donated surfboard that was given away as a raffle prize.
In a competitive double elimination bracket, San Diego Marketing Group went undefeated until the final round where they would have to settle for second place.
“Winning is always fun, but we were here for the children. We are just happy to have been able to be a part of helping raise the money needed. We try to make it a point to do something within the community on a monthly basis and we look forward to doing more in 2011,” says Rich Dinella, President of San Diego Marketing Group.
