Boyd Lighting/Kentfield Collection Sconce: On the Rocks is on a Roll - Interior Design Best of Year Award Winner 2010

The On the Rocks Sconce, by The Kentfield Collection, a division of Boyd Lighting, has won Interior Design Magazine’s 2010 Best of Year Award for lighting products. This is hot on the heels of the On the Rocks Sconce also being named to “The Hit List” by California Home + Design Magazine.

San Francisco, CA, January 08, 2011 --(PR.com)-- The On The Rocks Sconce, designed by Sherry Williamson for The Kentfield Collection, won Interior Design Magazine’s 2010 Best of Year (BOY) Award for lighting this December just weeks after being honored by California Home + Design Magazine.

Interior Design’s BOY Award is the interior design world’s version of the Oscars. On December 2, over 800 people from the design community gathered in New York at the stunning Frank Gehry designed IAC Building to celebrate the year’s best products and projects. The BOY Product Design honorees were selected by interior designers and architects via an online vote, and the winners determined by a jury of leading architects and designers. All honorees will be featured in a commemorative BOY book due out the summer of 2011.

This prestigious national award comes on the heels of regional recognition. In November, On The Rocks was honored by California Home + Design Magazine as a “2010 Hit List” winner as voted on by its readers.

On The Rocks is the refined work of Sherry Williamson, a designer with an architectural background who often begins the creative process by observing nature. “My fascination with shadows of plants in front of a wall was the first spark,” she says of what became a blend of lighting and sculpture. The hidden halogen light source shimmers up through a dense cluster of stainless steel stems, casting a pattern across the wall and illuminating the 144 clear Swarovski crystal “ice cubes” that inspired the fixture’s name. “I wanted to evoke flowers or reeds swaying in the wind, and yet I wanted to contrast them with beautifully machined metal and elegant crystal, a sort of black tie formality,” says Ms. Williamson, an interior designer known for her work in San Francisco, Woodside and Carmel. “I think of On The Rocks as a bouquet of light that plays on the walls of a room. And just like in nature, that subtle play of shadows is always unique.”

The ADA compliant sconce stands 16¼" tall and is offered in finishes of polished nickel or blackened brass. The Swarovski crystals are in three sizes; 4, 6 and 8 mm. Bold yet delicate, On The Rocks elegantly transforms space.
