Urban Solar Awarded Solar Lighting Transit Contract
Urban Solar Corporation, a leading manufacturer of solar powered light emitting diode (LED) lighting solutions, is pleased to announce Intercity Transit of Olympia, Washington, has ordered its solar powered lighting systems for their bus shelters.
Victoria, Canada, January 11, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Urban Solar Corporation, a leading manufacturer of solar powered light emitting diode (LED) lighting solutions, is pleased to announce Intercity Transit of Olympia, Washington, has ordered its solar powered lighting systems for their bus shelters. Intercity Transit selected Urban Solar’s PV-Shelter series solar systems for their high output LED lighting, integrated low-profile and vandal-resistant attributes.
The five-year contract between Urban Solar and the nationally-recognized transit agency couples powerful LED technology and intuitive power management with environmentally friendly solar power to enhance safety and the customer experience of transit riders in the state capitol city and surrounding area. The incorporation of solar lighting is the latest development in a string of efforts Intercity Transit has made to walk its sustainable talk. The region’s first hybrid electric buses began operation there last summer and the agency was among the first transit systems in the nation to use biodiesel and install electric car plug in stations. The system has been recognized by the American Public Transportation Association, the Federal Transit Administration, the Washington State Department of Ecology and the Puget Sound Clean Cities Coalition, among others, for its sustainable practices and innovative programs.
“This contract award is a strong statement in support of Urban Solar’s bus shelter solar lighting systems,” states Jeff Peters, Urban Solar’s President. “Intercity Transit is leading the way for sustainable technologies and environmentally friendly practices in the South Puget Sound region and its mission fits well with the products Urban Solar provides.”
Urban Solar’s solar design team responded to the transit agency’s vendor proposal request for a fully integrated, aesthetic solar lighting solution in December 2010. Combining bright white LED technology with Urban Solar’s Energy Control Module, the PV-Shelter provides a comfortable waiting environment for bus riders awaiting their bus and ensures riders will be seen by bus drivers and other motorists. "The result,” states Peters, “is a safer, more welcoming transit shelter that helps enhance the transit experience while also reducing Intercity Transit’s carbon footprint.”
