The First Tee “Tees Up” Its Inaugural Charity Poker Tournament

Youth development organization of Sarasota and Manatee Counties holds fundraiser at One-Eyed Jack’s to benefit its local youth golf program.

Sarasota, FL, January 14, 2011 --(PR.com)-- The First Tee of Sarasota/Manatee will hold its inaugural “TEE IT UP” Texas Hold’em Charity Poker Tournament at One-Eyed Jack’s at the Sarasota Kennel Club on Thursday, January 27, starting at 6 p.m. The tournament, offering $15,000 in cash prizes (based on 225 players), meet and greet reception with complimentary food and beverage and raffles and prizes, will benefit The First Tee program locally while giving its supporters a chance to win some serious cash.

Formed in 2000 and serving over 1200 youths from both counties, The First Tee of Sarasota/Manatee is a youth development organization based upon The First Tee Nine Core Values™, life-long values that apply throughout every aspect of an individual’s life. The mission of The First Tee is “To impact the lives of young people by providing learning facilities and educational programs that promote character development and life-enhancing values through the game of golf.”

“For too long, the image in Sarasota has been that we ‘teach golf,’ not that we develop character in our participants,” says Mark Leetzow, President of The First Tee. “For the last three years, we have been working hard to change that perception. We want to emphasize that we use golf as the delivery tool to build character through our core values of Honesty, Integrity, Sportsmanship, Respect, Confidence, Responsibility, Perseverance, Courtesy and Judgment. We hope to raise not only funds for our program, but also awareness of what The First Tee is really all about.”

The First Tee provides its golf and life skills programming at Tatum Ridge Golf Links, Rolling Green Golf Club and Serenoa Golf Club. All locations offer an 18-hole course and complete practice areas that include a driving range and putting green. Children ages 5-18 (as long as they are attending high school) may join.

Admission to the “TEE IT UP” Texas Hold’em Charity Poker Tournament is $150 Buy-In or $50 for the reception only. Poker and golf fans are invited to come out and join The First Tee for a night of good food, drinks and lots of exciting poker in support of a program that benefits kids in a positive and rewarding way. Participants are encouraged to pre-register at www.TheFirstTeeSarasotaManatee.org as space is limited. To register by phone or to inquire about sponsorship opportunities, please call (941) 284-1387.
