HopeLink of Southern Nevada Partners with City of Henderson to Help Seniors

Las Vegas, NV, January 15, 2011 --(PR.com)-- The New Year is off to an amazing start for three Henderson seniors with a new home to call their own. HopeLink of Southern Nevada, a non-profit that focuses on preventing homelessness and keeping families together, has teamed up with the City of Henderson to purchase and rehabilitate three homes for low-income seniors.

“The City of Henderson is proud to work with HopeLink to provide affordable housing to its clients,” said Henderson Mayor Andy Hafen. “Our Neighborhood Stabilization Program, through funding from the Housing and Economic Recovery Act, provided funding to purchase and rehabilitate the homes.”

According to HopeLink executive director Daniele Dreitzer, the City’s grant will benefit low-income seniors for years to come. “This is an amazing partnership and one we are truly grateful for,” said Dreitzer. “Our mission to prevent homelessness and keep families together becomes even more important during a poor economy with record high unemployment. Through the City of Henderson’s generous donation, we’ll be able to help low-income seniors get back on their feet.”

Henderson’s Neighborhood Stabilization Program is helping to distribute approximately $4 million in federal funds that have been earmarked to purchase and repair foreclosed homes. In addition to HopeLink, it has distributed funds to Housing for Nevada, the Southern Nevada Regional Housing Authority, Community Development Programs Center of Nevada and others.

“These homes will help families stay together and get back on their feet,” said Dreitzer. “Through the dedication of the Neighborhood Stabilization Program, these homes were purchased and completely rehabilitated, making them beautiful, safe and comfortable for seniors that truly need them.”

HopeLink of Southern Nevada assists 1,500 families each year, providing rent and utility aid, food, clothing, prescription assistance, education and literacy programs in southern Nevada. In addition to these families, HopeLink provides new books and a healthy breakfast snacks to hundreds of children with the Breakfast Bookworm program and coordinates the Back 2 School event every August. HopeLink’s staff and clients work together to develop concrete action plans personalized to each family, helping the families focus their attention on getting out of “crisis mode” and work toward long-term solutions.
