The Humane Society of Greater Miami is the January 2011 Beneficiary for Rescue Chocolate
New York, NY, January 16, 2011 --(PR.com)-- The Humane Society of Greater Miami has been named the January 2011 beneficiary for Rescue Chocolate, it was announced recently. The vegan chocolate company donates 100% of its profits to various animal rescue organizations. A different non-profit group is picked as the beneficiary each month.
The Humane Society of Greater Miami (HSGM) calls itself a “limited-admit, adoption-guarantee” facility. That’s because, unlike at other animal shelters, no animal that is accepted into the program will ever be euthanized in order to make room for more homeless pets.
HSGM has been helping homeless animals in Miami-Dade County since 1936. Nearly 300 abandoned and homeless animals are cared for every day.
In addition, HSGM educates the general public about responsible pet ownership, runs a spay/neuter and preventative health clinic, provides pet grooming, and offers a pet boutique with unique items for sale. Fees and prices charged are plowed right back into the organization’s operating budget, which is almost completely dependent upon charitable donations.
“They’re providing so many vital services at HSGM that I’m really gratified to be able to contribute in my own way,” said Rescue Chocolate founder Sarah Gross. “I’m based in New York, but it’s great to reach out to Miami. Especially in the winter, when my chocolate won’t melt between here and there!”
Previous monthly beneficiaries of Rescue Chocolate have included United Animal Nations, the No-Kill Advocacy Center, Farm Sanctuary, and In Defense of Animals.
The company offers a product line of kosher and vegan chocolate bars and truffles. Products are handcrafted at a small factory in Brooklyn and packaged in eco-friendly materials. Each flavor is named after an issue important in the animal rescue world. For example, there are bars called Peanut Butter Pit Bull, Pick Me! Pepper, Foster-iffic Peppermint, The Fix, and Mission Feral Fig.
Rescue Chocolate was founded in January 2010. Products are sold in retail outlets around the country as well as online (www.RescueChocolate.com).
