On October 20th, 2010, the President of the Venice Biennale, Paolo Baratta, accompanied by the Director of the 54th International Art Exhibition, Bice Curiger, met representatives of the participating countries. Other first-time participants includes Govern d’Andorra, Saudi Arabia, Kingdom of Bahrain, Bangladesh, Republic of Rwanda, as well as Congo and India, which last participated respectively in 1968 and 1980.The theme chosen by Bice Curiger for the exhibition is ILLUMInations. ”The theme provided by Ms. Curiger is so timely for Malaysia,” said the PR of Malay Living Japan. “The Malaysia’s début in the Art Biennale must be a great chance to gather world’s people’s attention to the design/art scene of this fast-growing country. We’d like to take this opportunity to attract more Japanese people’s interest in Malaysian culture.”
