One of the Kansas City Region’s Oldest and Most Respected Career Schools, MTTI, Changes Name to WellSpring School of Allied Health, Adds New Programs
One of the Kansas City region’s oldest, most respected career schools, MTTI, is changing its name to WellSpring School of Allied Health, and adding programs for allied health careers. The first medical assistant classes begin in March. With locations in Kansas City, Mo and Lawrence, Ks, the Midwest leader in wellness education is helping the medical field prepare to deal with the influx of millions of new patients who will be entering the system due to the new healthcare legislation.
Kansas City, MO, January 20, 2011 --(PR.com)-- One of the Kansas City region’s oldest and most respected career schools, the Massage Therapy Training Institute (MTTI), is changing its name to WellSpring School of Allied Health and adding education programs for the allied health fields.
“The change is a reflection of the school’s broader mission which extends well beyond massage therapy and now includes education for allied health disciplines including medical assisting, nurse assisting, nutrition counseling, and personal fitness training,” says Don Farquharson, WellSpring School of Allied Health President and CEO.
WellSpring School of Allied Health has locations at 9140 Ward Parkway in Kansas City, Mo., and at 947 New Hampshire in Lawrence, Ks.
The 21-year-old school added a personal training program two years ago as part of its commitment to being the leader in wellness education in the Midwest. The first medical assisting students will begin classes in March at the Kansas City campus.
“Our goal is to be the premiere program for medical assistants in Greater Kansas City,” says Farquharson. “We seek students who want to benefit from an outstanding curriculum that will prepare them to be among the best in the region. Our unique, selective program blends state-of-the-art clinical and office-operations training with a more integrative and human-centered approach to medicine.”
“While there are other schools offering medical assisting training, WellSpring intends to put a much greater emphasis on the professional competence of our graduates,” says Sheryl Max, B.S.N., M.N., WellSpring’s Medical Assistant Program Director and a 30-year veteran of the nursing education field. “Through a selective-screening process and a more rigorous curriculum, WellSpring intends to turn out graduates who are ready to hit the ground running–even in the busiest of medical practices.”
Farquharson says that the school enjoys a reputation among employers for producing high quality graduates. “Employers know that graduates from WellSpring’s massage and fitness training programs are among the best of the best. We will have the same high standards of excellence in our new allied health classes.”
The learning environment at WellSpring is one of support, encouragement, humor and personal empowerment, says Farquharson. The teacher/student ratio is kept low to maximize personal attention and success. An uncompromising commitment to professional ethics is expected of every student and instructor.
"Over the course of the school’s history, we’ve diversified into a school dedicated to excellence in wellness education,” he says. “Massage therapy is still an important part of what we do here, but, today, it’s in conjunction with fitness training, community wellness classes and a larger slice of the total professions defined under the allied health field. The new name speaks to our future…to where we’re going.”
Medical Assisting is one of the fastest growing professions in the health care field, says Farquharson. “As medical delivery systems are transformed to reduce the cost of delivery and simultaneously accommodate millions of new patients who will be entering the system due to the new healthcare legislation, medical assistants will be in increasingly high demand to assume those front-line roles that will help extend the capabilities of the limited number of doctors and nurses that exist in the system today.”
Applications currently are being accepted for WellSpring School of Allied Health’s medical assisting, massage therapy, and personal training programs as well as continuing education and wellness classes. For more information, please visit http://wellspring.edu or 816-523-9140.
