15,000 Mile Motorized Bicycle Expedition for Charity

Augusta, GA, January 21, 2011 --(PR.com)-- All the Way Around, Motor Bicycling for Charity

Beginning May 18, 2011, Will Adams and Matt Riley will begin a 15,000 mile journey on motorized bicycles powered by 49cc engines and getting 150-200 miles per gallon, from Anchorage, Ak to Ushuaia, Argentina, the southernmost city in the world, to raise awareness of the growing problem of a lack of clean water worldwide. The trip will take them across three mountain ranges: the Rockies, the Sierra Nevadas, and the Andes mountains.

The goals of the project are to help people in developing nations gain access to clean drinking water by raising money for various water relief charities, volunteering their time with various charities along the way, raise awareness about cheap, efficient, alternate means of transportation, break the Guinness World Record for the longest distance traveled by motorized bicycle and expose people to new cultures in different ways than have typically been done while shooting broadcast quality HD video. To raise awareness of the growing problem of a large percentage of the world’s population lacking access to clean water and sanitation, they will be interviewing various experts along the way, testing the general public’s knowledge about the issue, and researching for themselves by volunteering their time working with different organizations in Central and South American that are actively working to correct this problem.

They are currently doing test trips that will be progressively longer to work out logistical and mechanical problems and will be coming through Athens, Ga where Will grew up. Will will be available for an interview and photos to let your readers learn about the cause and the trip and what they can do to help.

The bicycles will be elongated cruiser style frames with the peddle crank set moved forward for a more efficient upright peddle position and also to reduce wind resistance. The engines will be four stroke 49cc engines producing 2.5 horsepower that will be combined with the peddle drive via a freewheel mechanism attached to the peddle crank set and driving an internal geared hub and will get approximately 150-200 mpg. All video and audio equipment will be recharged with three specifically designed monocrystalline solar systems recharging repurposed Li Ion laptop batteries and will be enclosed by a hinged carbon fiber mounting box. The sleeping systems will be incorporated into the bicycles trailers with an aluminum camp cot with a tenting system as part of the cots.

The trip is being funded through corporate and private sponsors and they are currently looking for more sponsors to be a part of their project.

Will Adams is an avid kayaker, cyclist, martial artist and has a degree in Occupational Therapy. Also an accomplished musician being proficient at playing the Piano, guitar, banjo, mandolin and any other stringed instrument he can get his hands on.
