Cyber Security on InfraGard’s 2011 Agenda, Expert Panel Discusses Policy, Challenges and Recommendations for Cyber Security

Washington, DC, January 21, 2011 --(PR.com)-- The InfraGard National Members Alliance (INMA) held their first national policy event of the year on cyber security. INMA Chairman Dr. Kathleen Kiernan and Advisory Board Member James Norton welcomed a distinguished panel that included White House Cyber Security Coordinator Howard Schmidt, FBI Executive Assistant Director Shawn Henry and Dr. Greg Rattray, a partner at Delta Risk and pioneer in Cyber Security provided valuable insight on the federal government’s policies and response to the cyber threat.

“Cyber Security is the most important challenge we will face as a nation in the next 10 years,” said INMA Chairman Dr. Kathleen Kiernan and “Public private partnerships help bridge the digital divide and today InfraGard brought together thought leadership from across the public and private sectors to include Federal, State, Local and Tribal law enforcement, academia, research laboratories and all the military services demonstrating the criticality of cyber security.”

James Norton, InfraGard Advisory Board member and who had served as a senior member of Secretary Chertoff’s team at the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) added, “Communicating and working with industry and academia is critical to solving the cyber security issue … Mr. Schmidt and Mr. Henry’s participation in today’s discussion demonstrates the Administration’s commitment to doing just that.”

Bill Ross of General Dynamics C4 Systems (GDC4S) and Dr. Greg Rattray, a Partner of Delta Risk, provided industry and the academic outlook on the issue. Ross, who heads the Cyber Mission Assurance Systems business within General Dynamics commented, “while the cyber solution provider community continues to develop an exponentially increasing number of widgets and boxes to solve point cyber security issues, it's essential that these solutions simply and transparently fit within a comprehensive enterprise cyber security architecture that does not adversely impact the mission at hand. Howard Schmidt, Special Assistant to the President and Cyber Security Coordinator
President Barack Obama appointed Howard Schmidt to serve on the National Security Staff as the White House Cyber Security Coordinator. One of the world’s leading authorities on computer security, Mr. Schmidt brings 40 years of experience in government, business and law enforcement to the position. In this role, Mr. Schmidt is responsible for coordinating interagency cyber security policy development and implementation and is responsible coordinating engagement with federal, state, local, international, and private sector cyber security partners.

Shawn Henry, Executive Assistant Director, FBI
Director Robert Mueller, named Shawn Henry as the Executive Assistant Director of the Criminal, Cyber, Response, and Services Branch. In over twenty years of service with the FBI Mr. Henry has served in a number of leadership roles including as Assistant Director in Charge of the FBI’s Washington Field Office and as Assistant Director of the Cyber Division.

Bill Ross, Director of Cyber Mission Assurance for General Dynamics C4 Systems. Mr. Ross leads an organization that specializes in the design, development and implementation of network and system solutions that sense and defend against cyber-attacks. With more than 20 years of experience in this field, Mr. Ross has served as a principal advisor and has successfully managed a wide variety of High Assurance and Integrated Security Solutions programs for the U.S and Foreign Governments.

Dr. Greg Rattray Partner at Delta Risk a consulting firm focused on advanced approaches to cyber defense and risk management. Prior to founding Delta Risk, he served in numerous leadership roles focused on cyber security including as the Commander of the Operations Group USAF Information Warfare Center and Director for Cyber Security on the National Security Council.
