Event Synopsis:
2010 has seen a torrent of regulatory changes which have affected nearly all aspects of corporate life. What's more is that the Fed appears to be going beyond issuing new regulations and legislating by interpreting the existing regulations. One such area where this is apparent is in Labor Law. Recent Department of Labor (DOL) enforcement efforts have centered on new interpretations of the existing regulations vs. the new ones. Evidence of this can be seen in a recent Amicus brief filed by the DOL which said that pharmaceuticals companies misclassified some of their employees and owed them overtime retroactively. These types of interpretations and subsequent enforcement actions could have big ramifications for all companies.
About Dr. Alex Grecu
Dr. Grecu's main area of expertise relates to labor litigation and consulting. He has provided attorneys with economic and statistical analyses in numerous class action matters involving allegations of gender, race, national origin and age discrimination in pay and promotions, as well as FLSA and state wage and hour regulations. He has experience in compliance reviews with government labor regulations, self-reviews of employment practices, and adverse impact analyses of workforce reductions. He has also applied his knowledge of econometrics and statistics to build models to analyze allegations of options backdating, infringement of intellectual property, and various antitrust violations. In addition, Dr. Grecu has helped to assess economic losses stemming from alleged employment discrimination, wrongful terminations, breach of contract, and fraud.
Prior to joining NERA, Dr. Grecu was a Director at Huron Consulting Group, where he supported expert testimony in matters relating to economic litigation including employment and labor, antitrust, securities, and various regulatory matters. Previously, he was an Associate at Analysis Group Inc.
Dr. Grecu holds a PhD in applied economics from Clemson University, and an ABD and BS in political economy from Babeş-Bolyai University in Romania.
