Max Factor never though his passion for beauty and skin care would take his career to new heights:
Soon Max Faktor was selling rouge, creams, fragrances and wigs out of his own shop in Moscow at the age of 20. When Russian nobility took note of Faktor's makeup products being worn during a special performance by a traveling theatrical troupe, Max Faktor became a household name. Soon after, the Russian nobility proudly appointed the young man as the official cosmetic expert for the royal family and the Imperial Russian Grand Opera, according to Inventors.about.com.
Hollywood became Max Factor’s home and allowed him many advantages:
During the early 1900s, Hollywood began to grow and seeing another opportunity for exposure, Max Factor moved his family to Los Angeles. Factor enjoyed regular visits from devoted customers such as Jean Harlow, Claudette Colbert and Bette Davis, at his beauty salon located near Hollywood Boulevard. With his list of growing clients, Max Factor's name appeared in movie credits and even managed to get a few cameos, while enlisting his sons as extras in popular Westerns, according to Wikipedia.org.
Even though his best customers were glamorous Hollywood actresses, Max Factor knew all women loved to feel beautiful:
With superstar actresses seeking Max Factor's products, it was only a matter of time before women who weren't in the movie industry began to want access to his glamorous makeup. In 1927, Max Factor introduced his first cosmetics line to be sold to non-theatrical customers, with the belief that every girl could look like a movie star by using his makeup, according to Inventors.about.com.
According to skin care expert, Danielle Robinson, Hollywood needed Max Factor. “Before Factor came along, the actresses were wearing theatrical makeup and if it hadn’t been for the genius of Max Factor, who knows what Hollywood would have looked like! It’s amazing that a man became responsible for making women beautiful.”
