Bruce McEwen Appointed Head of Faculty for Physiology at Faculty of 1000

London, United Kingdom, January 26, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Bruce McEwen has recently joined Allen Cowley and Denis Noble as a Head of Faculty for Physiology within F1000.

Bruce McEwen is currently the Alfred E. Mirsky professor of neuroscience and runs the Harold and Margaret Milliken Hatch Laboratory of Neuroendocrinology at Rockefeller University. Dr McEwen has published more than 700 papers, and has been at the forefront of research on sites and mechanisms of estrogen and glucocorticoid actions in the brain and their implications for human brain and body function, including the concept of allostatic load. He is a past president of the Society for Neuroscience, a member of the National Academy of Sciences, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the Institute of Medicine.

Commenting on the appointment of Dr McEwen as a new Head of Faculty, existing Head of Faculty Denis Noble said: "It is a great pleasure to welcome Bruce McEwen as a co-Head of the Faculty of Physiology. His input will ensure its continued success as one of the F1000 family."
