Retail Course Expansion at Derby College
Derby College is expanding its portfolio to include several new retail courses.
Derby, United Kingdom, February 03, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Derby College, which is a member of the National Skills Academy for Retail, is expanding its popular courses aimed at arming young people with the skills they need to work in this growing industry.
The College already runs courses at The Roundhouse in Derby and, from September, will be running Level One and Level Two Retail courses at Mundy Street in Heanor.
The one-year courses, delivered in partnership with key retailers who provide valuable work placement opportunities, are focused on the key skills needed by retailers including customer service, marketing and merchandising.
The new courses also provide opportunities to progress to Level Three courses at the College. Level Three courses are equivalent to three A levels, giving students a chance to move on to university. From university, former students have progressed on to study a wide range of courses including business management, marketing and fashion retail.
Richard Page, Manager of the Derby Retail Skills Shop says: "Retail courses have been hugely successful in Derby with the majority of our students progressing onto university or into the retail industry.
"The merger with South East Derbyshire College has enabled us to expand with courses introduced at Heanor which will ensure young people from further afield have easy access to the courses they want to study.
"Retail is a massive industry sector in the UK with more than three million people employed nationwide and excellent career opportunities for young people to quickly progress into well paid managerial positions.
"The East Midlands' retail profile is also fast gathering pace with new developments and improved shopping centres coming on board year on year which will increase demand for skilled staff.
"We work closely with retailers locally and nationally as part of the National Skills Academy for Retail initiative and the resounding feedback from employers is that the individuals who are successful in gaining work experience and qualifications initially and then progressing through the business are those who have the skills to be able to hit the ground running and have knowledge and passion for retail."
