Leading Promotional Clothing Company Shirtworks Warns That Rising Cotton Prices Will Increase Cost of Printed T-Shirts and Personalised Garments
Shirtworks, a leading supplier of personalised garments and printed t-shirts, has warned that the rising price of cotton will increase the cost of customised clothing.
Oxford, United Kingdom, February 02, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Shirtworks, one of the UK's leading suppliers of customised workwear and personalised clothing, has warned that the rising price of cotton is having an impact on the price of base garments used. The price of cotton rose sharply in 2010 due to demand outstripping supply, caused in part by flooding in China and Pakistan, two of the world's largest cotton producers. "We've been watching this closely over recent months, and we've seen the price of cotton rise steadily to a 15 year high in September of last year," said Arron Harnden. "There are obvious knock-on effects of this, as it increases the price of the base garments we use for printing and embroidery in the creation of personalised workwear and printed t-shirts. We felt it was important to keep our customers informed; with the recent increase in VAT, the price rises are inevitable."
When asked why cotton prices are so high, Arron said; "It's a combination of several factors. One is the horrific flooding in Pakistan last year. It's the fourth largest supplier of cotton in the world, so that meant supply lessened, and floods in cotton-producing areas of China also had a similar impact. There are also problems keeping up with an incredible increase in demand, caused in part by a booming economy in China, export restrictions in India and also the simple fact that cotton is very popular. I think there's been a trend towards using more natural fibres in clothing," Arron added. "And more interest in environmentally friendly and sustainable clothing materials, which has also increased demand. All we can do is keep our customers up to date and continue to provide the best value customised clothing as possible."
