About Vernessa T. Pollard

Vernessa Pollard is counsel in Arnold & Porter LLP's FDA and healthcare practice group, where she counsels pharmaceutical, medical device, and biotech companies on product approval issues, labeling, and advertising and promotion. Ms. Pollard also represents clients in FDA investigations and enforcement matters. Ms. Pollard spent six years as an Associate Chief Counsel for Enforcement in the Office of Chief Counsel at the FDA, where she handled enforcement actions and defensive litigation matters. While there, she advised agency clients and U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) lawyers on a range of compliance and regulatory matters, including issues involving good manufacturing practice (GMP) and Quality System (QS) regulations. Among the highlights of her tenure at the FDA, she handled the FDA's first administrative action seeking civil money penalties for violations of medical device adverse event reporting requirements, and, in conjunction with DOJ, defended legal challenges to FDA regulations and decisions involving product marketing issues, labeling and promotion, and the FDA’s evidentiary use of speech. During her tenure at the FDA, Ms. Pollard received several recognitions and honors, including the FDA Commissioner's Award of Excellence (2008) and the Commissioner's Award for Outstanding Service for Outstanding Legal Representation (2005). Ms. Pollard earned her J.D. from the Temple University School of Law.
