duCret School of Art Begins ‘Open Studio’ Workshops for Local Artists

duCret School of Art has opened three new Open Studios to the community, enabling anyone interested in art, as well as currently practicing artists - to creatively share and inspire one another on the 'fine art's floor' at duCret, on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings.

Plainfield, NJ, February 03, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Beginning on February 8th, & 9th, 2011, duCret re-opens the doors to its very successful Artist’s ‘Open Studio’ Program. If you have always wanted to paint, want to casually get started, or simply would like to become part of a community environment of local artists, the Open Studio series enables anyone to come in and paint or draw ‘on the floor’, so to speak, in an upbeat and inspiring environment along with other local artists.

Standing as the oldest private art school in New Jersey and celebrating its 85th year, duCret has long been a major center for the development of artistic talent in the state. Many who have studied at duCret are nationally acclaimed portrait artists and illustrators, as well as graphic designers who are now affiliated with some of the nation’s most prestigious advertising agencies.

Beginning Tuesday, Feb 8th, from 6PM – 9PM, artists can partake in ‘Portraiture Open Studio’, hosted by duCret instructor Paul Casale, Dorian Vallejo (son of renowned fantasy painter Boris Vallejo) and Richard Scarpa, who will offer artists the opportunity to paint or draw from a live model. Artists can simply bring their art materials, (paints, charcoal, pastels, pencil or other) set themselves up and begin. “To be able to mingle with other creatives and paint from a live model for only a few dollars is such a fantastic opportunity,” says Dorian. Paul Casale adds, “You can find other Open Studio events, but they usually cost much more and other studios lack the historic ambience you find here at duCret!”

Beginning on Wednesday, February 9th, from 7PM – 9PM, duCret instructor Christine Myshka will offer the opportunity to render the nude figure in charcoal or pencil in ‘Figure Open Studio.’ “We have a model come in and, poses range from one minute gesture drawings to 20 minute figure studies,” Christine says. “This way the artist is given the opportunity to try and capture the essence of the human figure in a limited time frame. “ Again, artists need only bring in their own materials and begin.

Also beginning on Wednesday, February 9th, from 6-PM – 8:30PM is ‘Advanced Jewelry Workshop’, hosted by duCret instructor Larry Gove. Intermediate and advanced crafters are invited to bring their projects and materials in, and work in a professional environment where encouragement and light banter helps artists to achieve their goals.

Open Studios run over a continuous span of 10 weeks. Artists can attend one session, a few sessions or all ten. Fees per session are $15.00 walk-in/general public and $10.00 students/alumni. (Discounts are also available – call for additional info). To register, call 908-757-7171 or for more information, go online at www.ducret.edu.
