Pan African Film Festival Featured Theatre Event: Ise Lyfe in “Pistols and Prayers”

Los Angeles, CA, February 03, 2011 --(PR.com)-- The Pan African Film Festival announces “Pistols and Prayers” as the feature theater event at the Nate Holden Performing Arts Center in Los Angeles on Saturday, February 18. “Pistols and Prayers,” a Hip-Hop theater piece based on the book, brings together spoken word, African-American folk spirituals, classical music, Hip-Hop and theater. PAFF, America’s largest and most prestigious Black film and arts festival, highlights “Pistols and Prayers” as the only theatrical production piece of this year’s festivities.

Written and directed by Ise Lyfe, Pistols and Prayers sold out the Tony Award winning Berkeley Repertory Theater. The production includes music from the internationally renowned harpist, Destiny, young master pianist, EJ Youngblood, DJ DC, and Geechi Taylor on the trumpet. “I’m honored to be presenting at the Pan African Film Festival this year. It’s a major moment in my career and a great opportunity to bring this celebrated piece to a new audience in LA,” says Ise Lyfe. “I am so humbled.”

In its 19th year, PAFF showcases a spectrum of films by filmmakers from the African Diaspora, creating a massive platform for independent Black artist utilizing these mediums. PAFF serves as a vehicle to initiate discussions around the important issues of our times and fosters communication between people of diverse cultures and lifestyles.

Recently appointed Commissioner of Arts and Cultural Affairs for the city of Oakland, Lyfe works in conjunction with his company, Lyfe Productives, LLC to engage audiences in dialogues around apathy, race, media and education.
