Columbia, SC, February 08, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Sensei Chris Feldt, owner and chief instructor for Samurai Karate Studio, located in Richland Northeast, Columbia, SC, recently announced that his school and several of his karate students and family members will be participating in the Homes For Troops Project this February 11-13 in Lake Carolina.

"This project is being led by one of my students, Allen Schwarz, a former Marine, who is very passionate about helping our veterans," commented Feldt.

"Allen has been wanting to participate in a community project to help our veterans and this is a great opportunity for us to get involved."

This project will be centered on building a house for SSG Ronell Bradley and will be built in Lake Carolina, a popular neighborhood village in Richland Northeast Columbia.

According to the Homes For Troops website, "Army SSG Ronell Bradley was on his third deployment when he lost both of his legs and suffered severe hand injuries when the vehicle he was riding in ran over an IED in Baghdad, Iraq on September 21, 2005. Sitting in the front passenger seat, the IED blast caused SSG Bradley’s weapon to explode in his hand, amputating his thumb and palm; the impact of the blast instantly amputating his right leg and severely injuring his left leg.

"Unaware of the severity of his injuries, SSG Bradley had to be pulled from the wreckage while under enemy fire. Medevaced to the hospital in the Green Zone, SSG Bradley was later airlifted to Germany before arriving stateside at Walter Reed Army Medical Center where his left leg and right pinky finger were amputated. Suffering from Traumatic Brain Injury with short term memory loss, SSG Bradley spent 3 months in the hospital and another 9 months undergoing extensive therapies while learning to use his new prosthesis.

"SSG Bradley enjoys spending time with his wife, Cynthia and his two stepsons. His goal is to obtain his PHD in Healthcare Management and pursue a career with the Department of Veterans Affairs. Ronell enjoys movies, the Martial Arts, weight lifting and traveling. He is a member of AMVETS, DAV, PVA, the American Legion and the Military Order of the Purple Heart.

"'My family and I would like to thank you for helping us and others like us live as close to normal lives as possible. This assistance will help me be more mobile and independent and will allow me to conduct my daily activities in a way that reinforces independence... I will be able to do things that I usually rely on my family to do for me.' (SSG Ronell Bradley when he asked how he expects a Homes for Our Troops home will improve his day to day living.)"

The project is planned for three days, February 11-13th. Everyone in the community is invited to register to volunteer at Homes For Troops website.

"This is a wonderful opportunity for us to not only help one of our courageous veterans, but a fine member of our community," commented Feldt.
