Phoenix, AZ, February 09, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Phoenix School of Law Assistant Professor Dave Cole has been appointed as Solicitor General for the State of Arizona by Attorney General Tom Horne. Cole will replace Mary O’Grady, who will be pursing an opportunity with a law firm in the private sector, effective March 4th.

In his role as Solicitor General, Cole will assist in appellate cases, including the supervision of all civil appeals; oversee preparation of legal opinions; administer and enforce State election laws; review constitutional challenges to State laws; provide independent advice to State agencies and boards in administrative proceedings in which Assistant Attorneys General appear as advocates; and work on special projects as requested by the Attorney General.

“We are going to miss Judge Cole as a full-time professor at our law school,” said Shirley L. Mays, Dean of the Phoenix School of Law. “He was a great legal mind and classroom teacher – the students voted him Teacher of the Year in 2008. He was able to help students see how to apply the theoretical underpinnings of the law to actual practice experiences. Professor Cole still will teach for us as an adjunct and we are very pleased that he will remain a member of the PSL community.”

Professor Cole has been teaching at Phoenix School of Law as a full time faculty member since 2007. Prior to his employment at Phoenix School of Law, Professor Cole served as a Maricopa County Superior Court Judge for nearly 20 years. Before his appointment to the bench, he served as Clerk of the Arizona Supreme Court, Assistant Arizona Attorney General, and Deputy County Attorney for Pima and Maricopa counties. He is a former certified specialist in criminal law and is licensed to practice law in all Arizona courts, the United States Supreme Court, the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, and the United States District Court, District of Arizona.

In addition to his years of instruction at Phoenix School of Law, Professor Cole has also held teaching positions at Pepperdine School of Law and the Arizona State University College of Law. Throughout his many years of teaching Professor Cole has taught the following courses: Evidence, Criminal Procedure, Torts, Property, Criminal Law, Trial Advocacy, Comprehensive Law Practice, Lawyering Theory and Practice, Employment Law, and Juvenile Law.
