DirectRooms.com – March 2011 Views a Collection of the Irish Paintings in Belfast

DirectRooms.com reveals that work from some of Ireland’s best artists will be going on display in Belfast in March giving audiences the chance to see a number of exclusive paintings.

Belfast, United Kingdom, February 09, 2011 --(PR.com)-- The Highlights of Sotheby’s annual sale of Irish paintings is an exhibition of the best work featured by the auction house before it goes on sale in London. The collection tours galleries and other venues in both Belfast and Dublin and will be coming to the Belfast Waterfront on 10th and 12th March 2011.

The exhibition is a display of traditional Irish art which is then sold in London in May and another sale of contemporary art occurs later in October.

As part of the show art enthusiasts residing in a hotel in Belfast can view a range of art from drawings, paintings and sculptures, with some pieces dating back to as far as the 18th Century. Previous editions of the show have included work from Irish greats such as Walter Frederick Osborne, Sir William Orpen and Roderic O’Conor.

Sales by the auction house have regularly set world records for certain pieces such as in 1999 for The Wilde Ones by Jack B. Yeats and then in 2001 the Portrait of Gardenia St George by William Orpen went for £1,983,500 which is still the record for the most expensive painting sold at auction by an Irish artist.

Lek Boonlert, marketing head at DirectRooms.com commented: “Many art collectors from Ireland and overseas will be attending the exhibitions to view the work before it goes on sale in London. As visitors book hotels over the show dates places can become limited so people looking for rooms should make reservations early online.”
