E-Waste Recycling Keeps the Music Playing

The Pleasant Grove High Band Boosters have partnered with Y-Not Recycle, a certified California e-waste collector, to offer another free e-waste recycling day on Saturday, Feb. 19. The event is open to all California residents and businesses, and Y-Not contributes $5 to support the school music program for every television, laptop, and monitor/screen recycled.

Elk Grove, CA, February 10, 2011 --(PR.com)-- The Pleasant Grove High Band Boosters are sponsoring a free Electronic Waste Recycling Day, and band students will be working rain or shine to help Y-Not Recycle, a certified California E-Waste collector, process the recyclables. Y-Not collects these materials, strips them of their hazardous and toxic components, and recycles all other material. For every monitor, laptop, television, or flat screen monitor received, Y-Not makes a cash contribution directly to the Band Boosters to help underwrite band events, trips, and other expenses, like music and equipment purchases.

Additionally, Rapid Information Destruction (RID) Services will also be on-site for a limited time, from 10 AM - 2 PM, to offer hard drive, document, and ledger/binder and disk/tape destruction for a donation of only $5.00 for each standard file box. Hard drives to be shredded must be removed from the computer prior to the event. Staples and paper clips do not need to be removed, and ledgers and binders can be shredded intact. All shredding is done on-site while the customer watches so that they can be confident in the knowledge that their information has been securely handled.

Severe cutbacks to education funding have led to parents uniting to form Booster organizations to help support essential programs. The Pleasant Grove High Band Boosters have seen an outpouring of support from local businesses in an effort to sustain the music program. Both Y-Not Recycle and RID are located in the Sacramento area. This will be the fifth year that Y-Not has worked with the band students and parents.

All donations go to the Pleasant Grove High Band Boosters to support the music and related programs of Pleasant Grove High and Katherine Albiani Middle Schools.

Y-Not Recycle will accept:
television sets/screens
laptops, computer systems and components
fax machines, copiers, scanners, and printers
MP3, CD and DVD players, stereo components
video gaming consoles and games
cell phones and their batteries, household telephones
miscellaneous electrical wiring and cables

Household appliances, including microwaves, cannot be accepted for recycling. For a more complete list of acceptable items, as well as driving instructions, please check out the band website.
