Harvey Industries Sponsors FIRST Robotics Competition
Harvey Industries sponsors the Robo Masters, from the Golightly Career and Technical Center & Detroit Public Schools, in the 2011 FIRST Robotics Competition.
Livonia, MI, February 10, 2011 --(PR.com)-- FIRST is a not-for-profit organization founded by inventor Dean Kamen in 1989 to inspire young people’s interest and participation in science and technology. As you dig deeper into the FIRST Robotic Competition, you find out that it’s not just about building robots, it’s about cooperation, professionalism, building functioning teams, learning multiple engineering disciplines, engineering methodologies, industry relations, and community involvement – all things that are perfectly aligned with Harvey Industry’s corporate philosophy.
The Robo Masters will compete at official district competitions held in March and April at Wayne State University in Detroit and at Athens High School in Troy.
“Harvey Industries is proud to support efforts to introduce these students to some of the engineering skills and technology that is an integral part of our day-to-day functions,” said Jerome Harvey, CEO. “We hope that by engaging with technical professionals in a hands-on, real-world experience, these young people will be encouraged to pursue careers in engineering and technology. It is our belief that in improving young minds and giving them the confidence to meet new challenges, we can give back and improve the Detroit community. We put words into action, and the FIRST Robotic competition is a good example of our effort.” Mr. Harvey added, “We are looking forward to the outcome of the district competition.”
Harvey Industries announced that it will sponsor Team 519, the Robo Masters, from the Golightly Career and Technical Center & Detroit Public Schools, in Logo Motion, the 2011 FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics Competition.
