“18XEEM” Educational & Cultural Magazine to Represent All Hmong People
Cedarburg, WI, February 12, 2007 --(PR.com)-- 18XEEM is the premier bi-monthly magazine about the Hmong culture. The Hmong, who have become scattered throughout the world in countries such as China, Laos, Thailand, Australia, France, Canada and United States, continue to share similar facets of life, through their practices, beliefs, values, and most distinctively, their history, art, music and clothing. Editorial focus is aimed at the cultural developments and people that are shaping the Hmong, and specifically the Hmong in America.
18XEEM’s mission is to
Educate the public and promote a positive reflection on the unique Hmong-American experience; its rich but diminishing history, culture and language.
Eliminate the perceptions of stereotypes about the Hmong community.
Encourage dialogue and stimulate a more active engagement with current issues facing the Hmong community in America and overseas in Laos, Thailand, and other countries where a significant population of Hmong exist.
Support aspiring journalists, artists, and activists by offering them the opportunity to exercise, contribute, and develop their skills to help launch successful careers.
Each issue features:
Insightful historical information –both factual and theoretical
Current events revolving around the Hmong communities
Profiles of individuals –both youthful and prominent figures
Artists and musicians striving to keep the culture alive
Poetry inspired by the history and life of the Hmong
Fashion styles –in both traditional and modern clothing
A collective of historical photographs submitted by readers
--for readers to better understand the culture.
Additionally, many articles within the magazine include direct translations in the titles, which are color-coded for a basic understanding of the Hmong language.
All articles are written in the English language, with some word descriptions in Hmong. The magazine is titled 18XEEM, to represent the entire 18 ‘clans’ or ‘last names’ that exists today.
