Adopt-A-Christmas-Tree Succeeds in Providing a Green Alternative for a Holiday Tradition

San Diego, CA, February 11, 2011 --(PR.com)-- For the fifth year in a row, the Adopt-A-Christmas-Tree singing elves delivered and collected potted Christmas trees from San Diego homes. Since the holiday season, the trees have either been maintained in homes or placed back into the environment, helping reduce the negative effects that 32 million Christmas trees have on our environment each holiday season.

Buying a Christmas tree, whether real or fake, has damaging effects on the planet. Naturally grown Christmas trees use tremendous amounts of pesticides, herbicides and fertilizers; furthermore, these trees take up enormous amounts of space in landfills. Although fake trees will be used year after year, they will eventually need to be discarded. Fake trees cannot be recycled, do not disintegrate in landfills and produce toxic fumes when burned.

The best environmentally-friendly decision one can make when purchasing a Christmas tree is to select a potted tree that will be replanted; this is exactly the mission of Adopt-A-Christmas Tree. The process is simple: order the ideal Christmas tree online, select a time for the singing elves to deliver it, pile presents beneath it and instead of tossing the tree in the trash after Christmas, have it picked up to be planted back into the environment.

“I’m so glad that we have Adopt-A-Christmas-Tree’s excellent service available to provide a live tree and then take it away and replant it after the holidays,” explains customer Sidney Merritt from Cardiff. “Besides the reduced fire hazard, there is the satisfaction of knowing that our tree will be of real use in the environment after the holidays are over.”

At the end of this past holiday season, almost 80 percent of the potted Christmas trees were collected and replanted. The other portion of the purchased trees were kept by customers, either to be saved in their homes or replanted on their own private land.
