Balfour Beatty Construction Delivers 1,700 Valentines to Military Veterans
Balfour Beatty Construction's divisions in California and Texas turn to some of the youngest artists in their communities to create and distribute Valentines to patients at local Veterans Associations hospitals.
Dallas, TX, February 11, 2011 --(PR.com)-- In honor of Valentine’s Day and National Salute to Veteran Patients Week (February 13 - 19), Balfour Beatty Construction and its subsidiaries Barnhart Balfour Beatty and Charter Builders turned to children at local elementary schools and Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Dallas to create approximately 1,700 valentines for veterans being treated at Veterans Administration (VA) hospitals in Dallas and San Diego.
Balfour Beatty donated construction paper, scissors, glue, glitter, pipe cleaners, stickers and crayons, along with cookies and drink boxes to reward the children’s efforts. In California, many of the children who participated attend schools built by contractor Barnhart Balfour Beatty.
On February 10, Barnhart Balfour Beatty employees in San Diego hand-delivered the children’s heartfelt valentines to their local VA hospitals. Patients also received baskets filled with sugar-free candy and nuts.
On February 14, teams from Balfour Beatty Construction and Charter Builders will visit the Dallas VA Medical Center and outlying clinics to deliver valentines and gift baskets with miscellaneous treats and items like playing cards and crossword puzzles.
“This is an excellent example of how individuals at our company take a great idea, like supporting our nation’s heroes, and join together to give back,” said Robert Van Cleave, chairman and CEO for Balfour Beatty Construction. “I’m extremely proud of the teams who put this event together and thankful for the local schools, Boys & Girls Clubs, and the children who helped us touch the lives of military veterans.”
