RTI Brings Development and Optimization of Distributed Real-Time Applications to Eclipse Platform
RTI developer platform leverages Eclipse to deliver increased flexibility and productivity to distributed application developers
Santa Clara, CA, February 13, 2007 --(PR.com)-- Real Time Innovations (RTI), The Real Time Middleware Company, today announced that its innovative development tools suite for distributed real-time applications is now hosted on the Eclipse platform. This move provides software development teams with all the added advantages of Eclipse integration for building and integrating distributed applications using RTI Data Distribution Service.
The Eclipse platform provides an infrastructure that gives software tools the ability to plug in and share common services. Fundamental services such as dynamic data-sharing between tools, source-code control and editing make it possible to employ common activities across a range of tools. Eclipse plug-ins also share a common look and feel, providing the experience of an integrated environment that enhances the productivity of a development team.
Eclipse also enables development teams to customize the environment with tools and layouts that focus on specific types of projects. There are thousands of plug-ins available for teams to adopt and use depending on the unique requirements of their projects. This capability means that teams using RTI Developer Platform are able to seek out and easily integrate tools that complement that platform to further optimize their development processes and results.
“Eclipse is a foundational technology; many innovative services are now being built on it,” explained Stan Schneider, CEO of RTI. “It was a high priority for us to leverage that foundation to deliver value, productivity and ease of integration to our customers. Using Eclipse, we are enabling real-time distributed application developers to have more flexibility in how they work.”
Distributed systems are difficult to understand. Distributed systems must deal with multiple sources of event-driven, time-critical data and tie complex networks of independent devices into a logical and manageable whole. With RTI Developer Platform, RTI offers a complete tools solution for the development, debugging, analysis and optimization of distributed applications.
RTI Developer Platform includes RTI Analyzer, which is integrated into Eclipse. RTI Analyzer provides a dynamic, object-based view of an active RTI system from a node and data-topic perspective. Development teams can visualize system behavior and easily identify bugs and incorrect system configurations to improve quality and performance. In addition to viewing a system in real time, RTI Analyzer can save snapshots of a system’s state and compare and visualize the differences between snapshots. This is very useful, particularly during development or regression testing.
RTI Developer Platform considerably simplifies the challenge of developing and integrating complex, high-performance distributed systems. The suite targets a development environment based on the open-standard Data Distribution Service (DDS) for building large and distributed real-time applications. The integration with Eclipse means that teams can easily integrate custom development and debugging tools into their practices, or leverage one or more of the many third-party and open-source plug-ins available to enhance the development experience.
“The incorporation of Eclipse makes the RTI Developer Platform truly open-architecture and adaptable for the development of applications based on open-standards DDS,” stated Dr. Gerardo Pardo-Castellote, RTI’s chief technology officer and co-chair of the Object Management Group (OMG) Data Distribution Special Interest Group. “Developers can take advantage of the features and plug-ins available to Eclipse to improve their productivity and enhance the overall development experience.”
Price & Availability
RTI Developer Platform is available immediately for Microsoft Windows, Linux and Sun Solaris hosts. Pricing begins at $11,995 for three developers and includes one year of maintenance and support.
RTI Data Distribution Service is licensed separately. It is available today for many operating system and processor combinations, including Windows, Windows CE and Windows Mobile; Solaris; Linux; LynuxWorks LynxOS; QNX; Wind River VxWorks; and Green Hills INTEGRITY configurations. A complete development package is available for $84,600 USD, which includes a comprehensive architecture study, two days of customer-specific training, one week of follow-up consulting, and one year of maintenance and support.
