Gary West of www.mrpopculture.com Claims to Have the World's Largest (Singled Authored) Blog
It's a blog world. The blogsphere has grown tremendously during the past five years. Gary West, who goes by the Internet name of Mr. Pop Culture, has been creating regular updates since 1999 - with a this week in history-news, pop culture and trends format. The first of its kind. Those updates have grown to over 5,300 entries. He claims it's a record for any single author, single blogger.
Temecula, CA, February 23, 2011 --(PR.com)-- www.mrpopculture.com
It was back in 1999 when Gary West created, "Pop History Now" - a daily update that catalogued the 1960's... week-by-week in news, trends and pop culture. The format proved to be a hit and was expanded vastly. Almost 12 years have gone by, and today, a viewer can access about 3,000 weeks from the 1950's, 1960's, 1970's, 1980's, 1990's, 2000's and into this year. And much more.
Says West, "Back in 1999, there was little to offer in this category - only brief timelines. I felt that, if I wanted to be the ultimate pop culture historian, I'd have to create a unique update - something that stood out. Even today, there's nothing like this blog. Each week-by-week entry is full of news, tidbits, pop culture, trends - all that is fascinating and interesting from each week.
"What I did not realize - was that I was also creating the world's largest blog - at least by a single person.
"I continue to update my blog, which morphed into www.mrpopculture.com and www.mrpophistory.com. About seven years ago, I added a question-and-answer section, in addition to the week-by-week entries. Between both, there are more than 5,300 entries/updates... about 30,000 pages. And - they're all out there for viewers to access - in several different sections.
Continues West, "1999 seemed like an eternity ago. Companies such as CompuServe and Earthlink were the talk. Google had just started and Netscape was our browser. And, it was a slow, dial-up Internet. Music still came from CD stores.
"I continue my updates exactly as I did 12 years ago. It wasn't nearly as smooth back then. Products such as WordPress have made blogging easier for everyone!
"An interesting trend - it seems there are bloggers who are really going for the 'largest blog' record - but they're soliciting outside comments and content from others as updates. The Mr Pop blog is 100% researched and updated by myself. It took a lot of research - about 10 years in the library. I actually have a pronounced muscle on my right arm, just below the wrist - because that's the arm I used to move-forward the microfilm reel."
West says his original update address, www.pophistorynow.com is still business - the address where the world first came to get their week-by-week news, pop culture and trends updates. "So many good things have come from this, you almost forget those kinds of stories. And the best is yet to come."
