Controversial Blasphemy Law, Sexuality in Pop Culture and the Pakistani Queer Scene, Features in New Publication Launched by low key/slate Publications

The Missing Slate portrays the holiday with surrealism, honesty and coupled with real heartbreak.

London, United Kingdom, February 15, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Islamabad, Pakistan and London, United Kingdom based low key/slate Publications launched The Missing Slate on October 15, 2010. Their second issue - Winter 2011 - published today, comes at a time of socio-political turmoil in Pakistan over the murder of late Governor of Punjab, Salman Taseer.

The Missing Slate is an internationally based art and literary journal that aims to encourage freedom of creative expression, transparency and thought in Pakistan. Its editorial team is located in the UK, US, Australia, Pakistan and Canada. The content mix covers fiction, poetry, photography, interviews, reviews, journalism and articles.

Its Winter 2011 cover features include the deeply taboo underground LGBTQ scene in Pakistan. "It is surprising that we live in the 21st century and so many of our citizens are unable to live the lives they lead without being judged for it. The Missing Slate is a platform for everyone not just majorities, and artists and writers by their very definition are minorities," Maryam Piracha, the magazine's Editor-in-Chief stated. Feature articles on the Blasphemy Law and Pop Cultures growing influence on sexuality underscore the importance of informed public discussion of these issues in a suffocating democracy.

The issue also presents photographic coverage of the Pakistan floods that occurred in mid-2010. "It's disheartening that the flood victims have already been forgotten by the media in the country. Through our photo essay, we aim to keep the issue alive and in focus," Moeed Tarique, the magazine's Creative Director, stated. "There are people out there who still need our aid."

The issue also features new voices from North America, Canada, Australia, Israel, the UK and Pakistan. It introduces young artists Ahsan Masood and Ammad Tahir, fashion designer Fayez Agariah and jewelry designer Zil-e-Batool.

"We chose February 14, Valentines Day, as our publication date because we wanted to send out a message of love and tolerance to and for Pakistanis", Ms Piracha and Mr Tarique stated jointly. The magazines first issue generated buzz among the fashionistas and literati of the country, with Hadiqa Kiyani and Tariq Amin included in its praising readership.

The second issue is available in multiple formats: through its online website, digital editions and as a PDF. Subscriptions are also available. Archives of all issues are maintained on the magazines website.
