Advocates Head to D.C. to Lobby Congress and Fight Arthritis
The annual Advocacy Summit brings together advocates, young and old, from across the country to meet with their Members of Congress.

Advocates Head to D.C. to Lobby Congress and Fight Arthritis.
Key arthritis advocates from around the country will be converging on Capitol Hill from February 28 – March 2, 2011 as part of the Arthritis Foundation’s 13th annual Advocacy Summit. They will meet with members of Congress to let them know that more needs to be done for people with arthritis – more research, more public health initiatives and better access to arthritis treatments. Attendees also will receive an introduction to how Congress works and learn about the Arthritis Foundation’s advocacy priorities for 2011.
The advocacy awards dinner will be held during the Summit to recognize and thank advocates, as well as volunteers and staff, who are working to improve the lives of the more than 50 million Americans with arthritis.
In addition to the pain and suffering caused by the disease, individuals with arthritis are also burdened with a hefty financial toll, costing the U.S. economy an unfathomable $128 billion annually. Events like the Advocacy Summit aim to change that. At this year’s event, advocates, young and old, from across the country will meet with their Members of Congress in Washington, D.C. to:
- Learn firsthand about Arthritis Foundation priority advocacy issues;
- Meet face-to-face with Members of Congress and educate them about arthritis and its devastating effects on the 50 million adults and 300,000 kids with the disease, their families, and the country's economy.
- Let Congress know more needs to be done for people with arthritis.
