Atlanta, GA, February 18, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Icinga the open source monitoring solution and Nagios fork, proudly presented the new, stable version 1.3.0 online today. Alongside an array of enhancements, the new release features improved IPv6 support, superior database connectivity and optimized performance in the web interface.
In keeping with the latest standards, Icinga now supports multiple addresses to offer users greater flexibility in heterogeneous environments. This new functionality allows extra IPv6 addresses to be assigned to a single host, making the monitoring of complex infrastructures even more convenient. Substantial improvements to Icinga Core threading, performance and stability can also be seen.
On the database side, support was optimized for all major platforms - MySQL, PostgreSQL and Oracle with the addition of multi-valued inserts for host and service contacts, as opposed to single insert/update loops in IDOUtils (Icinga Data Out Utilities). Moreover, service and host checks are now only inserted when entirely processed, further increasing database performance.
Above all, the new Icinga web interface features many significant enhancements. Customized widgets known as Cronks can now be easily created in a series of clicks. Users can filter, sort and save a view they often use as a Cronk, and share it among their user groups. The user can also create their own Cronk categories, to organize and access their preferred views on the left menu of the interface.
Another new feature of Icinga Web is a control panel to monitor remote instances, making Icinga even more convenient to use in distributed environments. Version 1.3.0 also sees Icinga Web upgraded to the latest Ext JS to offer faster and more consistent browser support for Firefox, Safari, IE6, Chrome or Opera.
No component was left untouched in Icinga 1.3.0, with the integrated reporting module now boasting flexible distribution parameters. Users can specify recurring reports in fixed intervals such as “last week” or “last month” to be sent when desired. Icinga Docs, the official English and German documentation have too kept pace with development, adding how-to guides on reporting integration and addons such as PNP Grapher.
Icinga Core and IDOUtils Developer, Michael Friedrich explained the driving force behind developments in the new version: “Optimized performance and stability was our main focus for Icinga 1.3.0. This was definitely motivated by the community- over 4 months we have implemented around 200 fixes and new features to meet many user requests. We are excited to say that the release of Icinga 1.3.0 marks the beginning of a stable-only road map, where future versions will be fully tested and operational.”
