Palm Global Flooring, the World’s "Greenest" Wood Flooring Company, Now Calls Vancouver Home
As Vancouver strives to become the “greenest” city in the World, Palm Global Flooring, www.palmglobal.com, manufacturer of the world’s most environmentally-friendly solid wood flooring, is proud to call Vancouver home.
Vancouver, Canada, February 19, 2011 --(PR.com)-- As Vancouver strives to become the “greenest” city in the World, Palm Global Flooring, www.palmglobal.com, manufacturer of the world’s most environmentally-friendly solid wood flooring, finds Vancouver is good for business as well as the environment.
“We started in New York City, and although there are obvious advantages to being in such a huge market, Vancouver’s enthusiasm for sustainability is so strong we were compelled to relocate our headquarters here,” says Ray Hyland, Director of Palm Global Flooring.
Palm Global Flooring is a global leader in the manufacture of environmentally-sound solid hardwood flooring. “While most wood flooring comes from forests, with a resulting impact on natural habitats, we work with established coconut plantations to remove their ‘senile’ trees, too old to effectively produce coconuts,” notes Hyland. He continues,“Currently, there are over 170 million senile coconut palms in Indonesia alone. These senile trees would often be burned or left to rot by the plantation owners." In effect, Palm Global Flooring innovatively uses ‘waste’ trees to produce a beautiful, high-end product. “Unlike bamboo, coconut flooring is milled straight from the palm tree, no glues or chemicals are required, so the floors are greener to make and also have no off-gassing.” states Hyland. The result of Palm Global’s effort is the production of a beautiful, high quality and unique flooring.
And that beauty has local and international designers excited. With its rich colour, long dark fibers, and complete absence of knotting; designers, builders and architects are enchanted with this new product. “Our first installations were in the Vancouver area, both commercial and residential. Vancouverites love green solutions, and are not afraid to try something new,” said Hyland. “Now we have coconut floors in place as far away as Nashville, Denver, and Toronto. Once designers became aware of the product we started getting a lot of requests. Since it is harder than Oak, you can use it in high-traffic commercial installations too.”
When asked how this wide customer base affects a Vancouver-based company Hyland says, “Actually we find Vancouver to be the ideal spot. The port is fantastic for receiving our product from the Indonesian Plantations, and we can ship by truck or rail direct from our Abbotsford Warehouse. And as the product is covered under the Canada/US free trade agreements, the border is not an issue either."
