Finally, A New Fresh Cup
Storefront by Storefront: Historic Westside Village Revitalization Takes Shape
Atlanta, GA, February 14, 2007 --(PR.com)-- Many Atlanta University Center students stay clear of the areas outside their respective institutions’ gates. One example is Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive between Joseph Lowery and James P. Brawley Drive. For years, the narrow street offered little to nearby students or residents outside of the Publix Supermarket. In recent months, however, the Historic Westside Village has slowly undergone a facelift.
This facelift comes ten years after Atlanta Development Authority proposed a $130 million development project that promised to rescue Vine City from its dilapidated state. The poorly planned project lacked support from the City of Atlanta. As excitement for the multi-million dollar deal fizzled, Vine City was left with a fraction of what was proposed.
As expected the construction of Publix, Blockbuster, a bank branch, and a small Chinese restaurant was not enough to revitalize the down-trodden Vine City. In early 2006, the city sold the undeveloped land to H.J. Russell and Trammell Crow.
This begins a new chapter for the Historic Westside Village. As one of the first businesses to open up on the corridor, The Crazy Coffee Company aims to serve Vine City’s changing demographic and become the first choice gourmet coffee spot for students who have given up on the community outside their dorm and/or classrooms.
The Crazy Coffee Company’s AUC café is the first of thirty Crazy Coffee Companies planned for development on Historically Black College & University campuses over the next three to five years. Crazy Coffee Company has aspirations to become a publicly traded company by the year 2012 and become one of the largest specialty and gourmet coffee companies in the world.
The Crazy Coffee Company has successfully differentiated itself from Starbucks Wannabees by creating a unique coffee culture, which consists of the company’s multicultural logo, Crazy Flag Quiz, and a glossary to articulate the coffee-going experience. The Crazy Coffee Company has taken the time out to devise a slew of terms. When a Coffee Being, a frequent Crazy Coffee Company customer, walks in, he or she can ask the barista for a beverage in one of two sizes: Shawty or Big Boi. When the customer asks for the barista to PimpMyJoe, the barista will gladly customize a mocha or latte with an assortment of flavored syrups and, or whip cream. Customers are encouraged to place tips into tip jars that read Thanks-A-Latte. In addition, The Crazy Coffee Company is the only place in the world where you can order a Frat-A-Ccino or a Soro-A-Tea.
Perhaps, most important, The Crazy Coffee Company has identified the faculty and student bodies of HBCUs as an underserved population in relation to specialty coffee shops. For this reason, the Crazy Coffee Company extends an especially warm welcome to members of this community.
In fall 2006, The Crazy Coffee Company opened its first café on the corner of Martin Luther King, Jr. and James P. Brawley Drive in Atlanta’s Historic Westside Village. The coffee shop offers customers a wide array of world class coffees, designer teas, and locally prepared desserts to on-the-go customers. Patrons are invited to use free Wi-Fi or lounge on the cafe’s outdoor patio.
