Artist Jan Bushart Shows Maui Plein Air Paintings at Hotel Hana-Maui
Multiple award-winning painter exhibits work at the Hotel Hana-Maui in Solo Show during the month of February featuring paintings recently created on location in Maui.
Kihei, HI, February 20, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Esteemed artist Jan Bushart is currently showing her newest oil paintings painted on location in Maui. She is being hosted by the Hotel Hana Maui in conjunction with Hana Coast Gallery. Ten of the larger pieces are hanging in the Hotel lobby and the show is scheduled to run through the end of February.
Bushart is a multiple award-winning artist who is recognized for her skilled use of color and brushwork combined with her talent for capturing the light while painting on location; en plein air.
"Painting amidst the elements provides unique opportunities to capture fleeting light," says Bushart. "I also want to convey more than what I see. I wish for the viewer to experience what I felt when I painted the scene; feel the breeze, the sea spray, the sun, the hike to the location, maybe even the occasional bug bite."
Most of the paintings in the show are larger format than work that is traditionally done on location. The largest of these works is four by five feet. This painting, "Overlooking Hana Town" required some special equipment. "There was quite a breeze on two of the days I worked on it so I used eighty pounds of weight on the easel and staked into the cow pasture. (Hasegawa's General Store was out of tent stakes so I improvised by pounding in shelf brackets.) Otherwise the painting would have taken off like a sail in the wind," explained Bushart. "Painting in the larger format is very freeing although it does present some challenges. The original intention and the light of the scene need to remain consistent and exciting."
Many of the paintings were painted on location in Hana specifically for the Hana Coast Gallery and Hotel Hana-Maui.
Jan Bushart has been painting professionally for thirty years and is the Founder and President of Plein Air Painters Of Hawaii. Visit www.janbushart.com for more information
