Grayson Pictures Negotiating Worldwide Theatrical Release for Uzbek Film
Shima (2011) an Uzbek film has attracted attention from distributors worldwide, when was it shown to distribution company officials at the European Film Market in Berlin. Japanese and Russian distributors are trying to negotiate a theatrical release.
London, United Kingdom, February 22, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Shima is a compelling tale of a soldier who continues to serve the Emperor of Japan, even after the Second World War has ended. Dismissing the news as enemy propaganda, he continues to defend his island against enemies. The film is loosely based on the real life events of Lieutenant Hiroo Onoda, who was one of last Japanese soldiers to holdout. He surrendered in 1974.
Trey Tyson from Grayson Pictures, the sales representative for the film said: “I'm not surprised by the response, because SHIMA is a well crafted and morally complex film that will really get people talking.”
The film has already won the Best Director category at the Nizhny-Novgorod “Nashe Kino XXI Century” Film Festival. It was also officially selected to appear at the Moscow International Film Festival and the Almaty International Film Festival.
Nearly all of the $1 million (US) budget can be seen on the screen, like the authentic Japanese military base painstakingly recreated in Central Uzbekistan, where most of production took place.
Written and directed by newcomer Bakhodir Yuldashev, a prolific music video director. Most of his videos have been broadcasted on MTV Russia and he has received the much coveted Tarona Records Award for his music videos. The idea for the film had been conceived more than ten years ago, when Yuldashev had first heard about the legendary Hiroo Onoda: “This story has made a strong impression on me, and years later when the moment came to choose a script for the film, I knew precisely what the story would be.” So mesmerised by the events, it was only natural for his debut film, he would choose a story that was close to his heart.
International sales agent for "Shima" is UK based firm, Grayson Pictures.
