Balfour Beatty Construction’s Ray Southern Listed as Top 100 Power Leader
South Florida Business Journal recognizes Ray Southern, President and Chief Executive Officer of Balfour Beatty Construction's Florida division, as a leader in South Florida's business community.
Dallas, TX, February 21, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Ray Southern, President and Chief Executive Officer for Balfour Beatty Construction’s Florida division, was ranked on South Florida Business Journal’s inaugural Top 100 Power Leaders list. The award represents the elite movers and shakers who are leading South Florida business.

During his career, Southern has led his team through two acquisitions—first by Centex Construction and then by Balfour Beatty in 2007—and today he heads the company’s Florida division, which has averaged $500 million in annual revenue for the last ten years, making the company the largest general contractor in South Florida.
Southern received a degree in building construction from the University of Florida in 1973. Committed to his alma mater, he serves on the Board of Directors for the BCN South Florida Gator Alumni Association and is an executive committee member with the University of Florida’s M.E. Rinker, Sr., School of Building Construction Advisory Council. He received the M.E. Rinker, Sr., School of Building Construction “Hall of Fame Award” in 2008.
An active leader in his community, Southern serves on the Board of Directors for the Community Foundation of Broward County and United Way of Broward County. He is also a member of the United Way Tocqueville Society and the CEO Council for Broward Alliance, and Broward Workshop.
