Local New Jersey Doctor Dr. Eric Chludzinski, DC Treats Herniated and Bulging Discs, Sciatica, and Serious Low Back Pain Without Back Surgery Utilizing New Technologies

New treatment options available to treat serious back, disc and sciatica pain.

Scotch Plains, NJ, February 25, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Today, low back pain is one of the most significant health problems facing Americans according to the National Institute of Health, with 85% of all people having back pain at some point in their lives. But thanks to fairly new technologies available there may be a highly effective, non-surgical solution to this growing health concern.

Imagine the spine as a bunch of blocks stacked on top of each other. In between each block is a disc. Discs are like jelly donuts with fluid in the center. When a disc is injured or torn, the jellylike substance on the inside can leak out. This is a called a herniated disc. Even if the outer disc is not torn, a disc can bulge without herniation. It is like a balloon that is stepped on and does not pop. When a disc bulges or herniates it is a major source of back pain. It can also pinch the delicate nerves that pass by as they come out of the spine. That’s what can cause pain in the back or down the leg. It can also cause numbness and tingling down the leg and into the toes.

There is technology available to treat lower back pain, disc pain and sciatica called non-surgical spinal decompression. By decompressing the spine, disc spaces can be increased and disc herniations can be reduced. The technology involved in spinal decompression allows the forces on the spine to be cycled and ramped up and down in an attempt to “confuse” the muscles so that maximal decompression is achieved.

An experimental study has shown that in a degenerated disc (something an MRI or CT scan would show), decompression can lower the pressure inside the disc. This negative pressure may then draw or suck the displaced disc material more towards the center of the disc and away from the nerves. For many patients this can mean pain relief because a compressed nerve is a painful nerve. If the pressure on the nerve is released, it can begin to heal. This technology is designed to assist the body's natural tendency to heal itself because mother nature sometimes needs a little help. If the disc can be moved even a small amount away from the nerve, this can be enough to decrease inflammation and irritation. More studies are needed to fully understand why patients can improve when they receive this type of treatment and which types of disc problems respond the most.
