Meldrum Construction Services Increase Integrity with Workspace™ mini
Software implementation to underpin ISO9001 and improve collaboration
Nottingham, United Kingdom, February 25, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Meldrum Construction Services have purchased Workspace mini from construction specialist Union Square Software to support their underlying commitment to quality and integrity. Founded in 2001 the company has grown steadily and now turn over more than £10m and employ 75 people operating in the North East of England. "Building solutions with integrity is at the core of everything we do and our investment in Workspace further demonstrates this," says Maggie Dowe, Senior Implementer at Meldrum.
Workspace™ mini was chosen following a comparison of a number of systems. "We were already in the process of attaining ISO9001, the implementation of Workspace™ mini will help to underpin this accreditation in the future," comments Maggie. "We felt that we were already well organised in the way we handled our data and documents but when we saw the system we realised immediately that there was a better way of working." Like most Contractors accurate record keeping and being able to find and present documentation with ease for any reason but particularly in the event of a dispute or claim is fundamental to the effective operation of the business.
Maggie already thinks the system is engendering better collaboration within the business and believes that it will do the same with both clients and partners in the long term. "Meldrum has always strived for collaboration between all parties involved in a project, however we recognise that there can be an element of disjoint between different stages of a project's life. From initial enquiry through to project handover a period of several months and often years' time can be wasted in searching for information. We wanted to ensure that data and especially documentation flows easily between our various departments and is also available seamlessly from site. In the past everyone was managing documents in their own way which isn't the ideal situation, especially as we were looking to achieve ISO9001 accreditation."
Even though the implementation of Workspace™ at Meldrum is still in its early stages, Maggie is already able to cite numerous benefits. "By streamlining our processes we are demonstrating our professionalism and commitment to quality. Workspace™ mini has been fantastic for the estimating department where we are freeing up a lot of staff time through significant process improvements. The system has already had a massive impact on our tendering process which is now more efficient and has been simplified by the system. Once fully implemented we will be reducing waste in the construction arm of the business, allowing site managers to feel a sense of inclusion as they will access all the information they need directly from site."
