McGill University Selects Pulse Energy to Cut Campus Energy Use by 12%
McGill University and Pulse Energy partner to reduce campus building energy use.
Vancouver, Canada, February 24, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Pulse Energy is pleased to announce the launch of a partnership that will see McGill University become a leader in institutional energy management. Over the course of a three-year agreement Pulse Energy will deploy its energy management software across both McGill campuses. The energy management system will be used to monitor over 50 buildings and will help energy managers and sustainability administrators reduce building energy use per square foot to 12% below 2002-03 levels.

Energy conservation is a pillar of McGill's sustainability plans. The University’s energy reduction plan includes retrocommissioning for campus buildings, energy audits, a lighting retrofit program, and real-time energy monitoring with PulseTM.

The campus community will be able to view the energy performance of the university’s buildings in real-time on the PulseTM dashboard. Using this interactive technology will inform McGill students and staff about how their behaviour impacts building energy consumption and they will be able to take action to reduce their environmental footprint.
McGill’s energy and facility managers will use PulseTM to ensure that their buildings are performing optimally on a continuous basis. University executives benefit from a variety of reports on energy use, allowing accurate measurement and verification of cost saving environmental initiatives. The energy management system will also uncover inefficiencies that could result in potential savings opportunities on the McGill campuses and inform the development of future sustainability initiatives.
The interactive PulseTM dashboard is in both French and English for the McGill project. “Communicating building energy performance to the university community is integral to creating a culture of sustainability at McGill,” said Jerome Conraud, McGill University’s Energy Manager, “and Pulse Energy’s experience in identifying opportunities for savings, plus their strength in managing a portfolio of buildings, will help us meet our reduction targets.”
