Chicago Attorney Vivek Jayaram Leads Copyright, Trademark, and Licensing Workshop for Artists

Chicago, IL, March 03, 2011 --(PR.com)-- On January 29, 2011 Chicago attorney Vivek Jayaram of Jayaram Law Group led a workshop titled “Legal-Ease: Rights, Incorporation and Protections for Artists” which teaches visual artists, graphic designers, and musicians about registering and enforcing copyrights, trademarks and licensing, creating and negotiating contracts, and other legal issues facing artists.

The workshop, attended by thirty people, was offered through the Chicago Artists’ Coalition (CAC) whose mission, according to its website, is “to educate the public on the value of art in society while providing support, advocacy and professional development to artists in our community and improving artists’ living and working conditions.” The workshop was provided at a fee of $20 for CAC members, and $30 for non-members. “Practicing in a commercial setting, it’s not often I get to help those that cannot afford legal services,” said Jayaram. “I find it gratifying to use my background and experience to help individuals who simply don’t have the means to protect their intellectual and creative assets.”

Jayaram’s interest in the arts and artists hasn’t been limited to his “LegalEase” workshop. Over the course of the past five years he has contributed a significant amount of time to organizations like LegalArt and Lawyers for the Creative Arts, where he has assisted artists in obtaining favorable licensing deals and copyright and trademark protection. “I enjoy teaching in general,” says Jayaram, “because, aside from gaining satisfaction from providing advice to people who need it, learning to articulate complex thoughts in a simple fashion to a large group of people is a challenging and valuable skill for any professional.”

Vivek Jayaram, a 2004 graduate of the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, practices in the areas of business litigation, copyright, trademark, and business transactions.
